‘kNOW Your Mind’ – Smile and the Whole World Smiles with You
‘kNOW Your Mind’.
Smile and the Whole World Smiles with You.
A shorter blog this week because frankly I would rather you stop reading and start smiling! Really, let me encourage you to get out of a ‘comprehension’ mind activity (reading) and into an ‘activation’ ‘kNOW Your Mind hack’.
Here’s why.
When you smile your brain believes you are happy and then you start to feel happy.
How blinking genius is that!
You start to feel happy because all the happy hormones are released. Nifty right.
Those lovely hormones (or neurotransmitters) lower blood pressure, improve immunity, regulate your sleep and appetite.
They basically future proof you.
The main neurotransmitters are endorphins, dopamine and serotonin. Not to mention the cuddle hormone oxytocin which is great for helping us feel close to others.
According to research published in Springer Link facial muscles do not only express emotions… they also have the ability… to initiate emotions. Which means whether fake or real your facial muscles and the ways you use them influence your emotional state. Therefore, smiling makes you want to smile, which makes you want to smile… get me?
This study published in the Association for Psychologicql Science suggests that smiling may actually influence our physical state: …” participants who were instructed to smile… had lower heart rate levels after recovery from… stressful activities”.
You feel better and your body manages stress better as well.
Prevention suggests that being in a good mood (which you can induce with a smile) can make you more creative. This is due to positive moods influencing the neurotransmitter Dopamine, which is linked to motivation.
Being more relaxed means we function more from our Executive functioning area of the brain which influences creativity, learning and processing. And guess what, we are far more inclined to smile when we are relaxed. It’s a feedback system that really works for us.
And now for the title explanation ‘Smile and the Whole World Smiles with You’. It turns out that when we smile it has positive effects on others. When someone smiles at us we want to smile back because our ‘rewards’ centre gets a nice little boost. Now that’s the kind of contagion I like.
If all that wonderful information doesn’t put a smile on your face, put one on there yourself and reap the rewards.
Do yourself a favour and SMILE.
Smile for your health.
Smile at someone else for their health and send one to me while you are at it.
Smile and the Whole World Smiles with You
With a big beaming smile sent directly to YOU… have a wonderful day.
